Pungowiyi expressed the double faced walrus was inspired by the book Two Old Women by Velma Wallis. The sculpture is carved from walrus ivory; baleen was inlaid for the eyes. Created by Siberian Yupik artist Kyle Pungowiyi, from Savoonga, Alaska.
